Get Your Money!

Everyone loves unexpected income right?!  Well this year you can get it from the government!  Think it is too good to be true?  I did too, but check out www.irs.gov.  The government is allowing everyone to claim $30-$60 on their 2006 taxes.  Based on your total exemptions you can claim these funds due to the repeal of the excise tax phone companies were charging for long distance service.  A family of four can claim a $60 credit while a single tax filer can claim $30.  Your other option will be to go through 41 months of old phone bills from 3/03 to 9/06 and add up the actual tax paid.  Depending on your phone charges it may be worth the trouble…  Businesses and non-profits have a calculation to make to determine the proper credit amount.  Get all the details on www.irs.gov.  Just don’t miss out on the government’s free money even if it is small.

Plan ahead…

Many of us have a love-hate relationship with the government.  Each time we look at our paychecks we think they get too much of our hard earned money.  On the other hand, right around January or February we tend to rush and get our taxes filed because we think a refund check is nearby.  Why don’t we change our way of thinking.  What if we planned a little earlier this year and reduced the amount given to Uncle Sam throughout the year.  This way we can save more regularly and earn interest on our own dollars as we get them.  Ideally, you should receive a very small amount or owe the government a small amount when tax season arrives.  Don’t let Uncle Sam make interest on your money!

Of course if you are anticipating a refund this year make sure to create a list of to do items that are important to you.  Spending the money on paper prior to it arriving in your mailbox will help you make better decisions about what you really want and need.  As you truly spend some time thinking about what is most important to spend your money on you will realize where your heart is.  As soon as tax season is over have your tax preparer show you how to come close to breaking even with a withholding planner.  That way you can get a raise this year without depending on your boss to hand it to you.

Never, Never, Never Give Up!

A close girlfriend of mine has a message on her voice mail that says “Success is achieved through perseverance so never, never, never give up!”  Every time I call her I know that if we talk she will encourage me in some way and if she isn’t available at the time I’ll still be encouraged.  What a wonderful way to greet all who desire to speak with you.  Today I encourage you with the same words.

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”                 -  Galatians 6:9

We are five weeks into the New Year.  Have you made plans to stay on a budget, save a certain amount of money, or purchase a large item?  How are you doing on your financial goals for 2007?  It is easy to set our goals, but what do we do once they are written?  Let’s not hide them in the office drawer.  Pull them out and read them at least weekly.  Make sure you are showing progress regularly.  Show them to someone who really cares about you.  It takes at least a few weeks of repetition before the new behavior becomes a habit.  Don’t give up before what you are striving for really becomes a part of who you are.  Whatever it is that you are destined to accomplish this year is worth the effort required.  And… you are more than worth the rewards that achievement will bring.

Never, Never, Never give up!
